12/09/11’s Friday Five :: Toppings

By M Davies   /     Dec 09, 2011  /     Friday Five  /     0 Comment

When in doubt: go to food.

1.  What’s your favorite ice cream topping?

I like rainbow sprinkles.  That's it.  Nothing else.  I'm pretty boring with my ice cream selection too.  I usually only eat vanilla.

2.  What’s your favorite pizza topping?

I like sausage and 'shrooms (of the non-psychedelic variety).

3.  What’s your favorite thing to sprinkle cocoa powder on?

I don't sprinkle cocoa powder on anything.  What an odd question to ask.

4.  What’s your favorite thing to put whipped cream on?

Hmmm….do I answer this question pervertedly or not….I keed, I keed.  :kiss  My favorite thing to put whipped cream on is on a Strawberries & Creme Frappuccino from Starbucks.  This is my favorite drink to get from Starbucks, btw.  I almost fainted when I went to the webpage and noticed the amount of calories in one of those drinks.  But it is sooooooo worth it.

5.  What do you like to put upon a cracker?

I like cheese with my crackers.  I like cheese and crackers with my whine (which incidentally, I'll be doing a lot of this weekend given my most recent injury).

12/2/11’s Friday Five ~ BRRRR!

1.  What’s your favorite thing about cold weather?

I actually like shoveling.  Does that make me the antichrist?  I was raised in the Poconos and shoveling equated to Snow Day.  I embrace shoveling like I embrace having a vacation day, even though that doesn't necessarily happen when there's a snowstorm.  Also, I go outside in the winter with short shorts and flip flops.  I could totally be in the polar bear club.  I just have to get over that whole "I don't know how to swim" thing.

2.  Soups and hot beverages seem to be everyone’s favorite cold-weather culinary combatant, but what’s another food that seems to take the bite out of the cold?

Spicy chicken wings and hard licquor.  I'm sure "Posts from the Fringe" is with me on this.

3.  When the weather is just starting to turn cold but is not yet in full frigidity, what do you add to your bed until it’s time to break out the heavy artillery? (I said what, not whom!)

I sleep on the couch.  I just add another blanket (crocheted by my grandmother).

4.  What household chore seems especially unkind in these colder months?

Gardening.

5.  Among people you know, who seems most oblivious to cold weather?

Me.  I walk outside without a coat and flip flops and people are all like "Aren't you cold?", "Where's your coat?", "What's wrong with you?".  I feel numb to it all, just like my toes do when I step foot in the snow.

"Leftovers"

1.  Leftover from April 17, 2009:  What’s a creature comfort (practically unnecessary) you must take with you on an overnight trip in the great outdoors?  Please consider a phone something that has practical necessity!

My iPhone and iPod plus car charger cable.  I really can't tell you the last time that I took an overnight trip in the great outdoors, though.

2.  Leftover from August 31, 2007: What did yesterday cost you?  <– Thanksgiving in the U.S., but answer it for wherever you are and whatever you did!

The gas to get from Sweet Valley to Hanover Township and then later Nord End Wilkes-Barre (I have no idea what this ends up costing), 20 or so dollars to buy supplies to make a Sweet Potato Casserole (blech!  I hate Sweet Potatoes, the hubs makes it to take his family gathering though because they love it), and 60 or so dollars in the new cost of outfits that I bought for Gabby and Owen to wear yesterday.

3.  Leftover from January 25, 2008: What was your excuse the last time you were REALLY late for something?

I was late for work a few weeks ago.  I blamed it on my daughter forgetting the money for the book fair at school.  It wasn't totally true, but it wasn't totally false either.  Which makes it NOT be a lie.

4.  Leftover from February 18, 2011: What was your first online purchase?

I think I actually purchased a VB (Visual Basic) 6.0 book from Amazon.

5.  Leftover from December 25, 2009: Which of your gifts do you think you do not put to its best, fullest use?

Probably jewelry that people get for me.  I hate when other people buy me jewelry.  I have my own style and just need to pick it out for myself.  I have a lot of necklaces, chains, bracelets and rings that I hardly ever wear because they are not "my style".  I really hate gold jewelry.  I prefer silver.  When I receive a piece of gold jewelry, I'm just like….what am I supposed to do with this?

1.  When did you last move residences?

I moved from Lee Park (Hanover Township) to Sweet Valley (Lake Township) in March of 2008.

2.  What song leaves you completely unmoved even though it seems everyone else is moved by it?

Pretty much any song by Nickleback.

3.  On what kinds of mornings is it easiest for you to jump out of bed and get moving?

Mornings that it is bright and sunny outside as opposed to being rainy, snowy or dreary.  Also…I'm not a morning person.  Its easier to get moving knowing I don't have to go anywhere….or if I do, it is not until later in the afternoon.

4.  What object do you get most annoyed about when people move it without letting you know?

Everything.  I have OCD to the umpteenth degree.  I've been told to read "Who Moved My Cheese" for this very reason, and have had supervisors tell other visitors and contractors not to sit in my cube if I'm not at work because I flip a shit if my tape dispenser is like 3 centimeters out of alignment with my stapler.  Then this happened once:

Sure it looks like I was smiling….but I was traumatized for weeks.  I kept finding pieces of spider web all over my cube for weeks after the fact.  Damn office pranksters.

5.  In what way are you waiting on someone else to make a move?

I'm going to try and be as non-specific about this as possible.  Life is all about knowing when to lead and when to follow.  Sometimes you need to make the move and sometimes you need to let others make the move.  I rely on my instinct to make this decision.  So, all that being said…I cannot reveal who or what I'm waiting on to make a move.  These next few weeks will more than likely reveal a lot about certain situations going on in my life right now.  We'll see what happens.  Vague?  Yes.  Sorry.

Friday 5 for November 4: Hanging Out

1.  Where did you hang out with friends when you were a teen?

We would often hang out at my house or friends houses, or around….whether it be at the mall or stores, or football games, or outside riding bikes places and stuff.  My friends were pretty widespread throughout Monroe County, so any hanging out usually required a long drive of some sort.

2.  Where did you hang out with friends when you were in your twenties?

Bars, parties, or we went over each others houses.  Also…online.  I'm a huge Internet geek.

3.  Where do you hang out with friends now? If you’re still in your teens or twenties, where do you imagine you’ll hang out with friends when you’re older?

Friends?  What friends?  I have no time to hang out these days.  I'm actually looking forward to attending the NEPA Blogger meet-up on Sunday evening.

4.  What great hanging-out memories do you have?

Oh my god…there are so many.  Where to begin….?!

5.  What ingredient makes hanging out better some times than others?

There are several….spontaneity, craziness, randomness and fun people.

Friday 5 for October 28: Repellent

    1.  What’s something you enjoy eating that many others would be grossed-out by?

I have an absurd obsession with peperonici that started when I was pregnant with Owen.  I will eat them on sandwiches or straight out of the jar.

    2.  Which of your personal traits is most likely to make others want to avoid you?

Probably my tendency to be a smart ass and my cynicism.  Some people tell me that it cracks them up, but I think it can be down right off putting at times.  Oh well, I'm not changing.  Learn to love me or hate me.  The choice is yours.

    3.  If you could wear a bracelet that had the power to keep certain kinds of people away from you, what kind of people would you repel?

Morons, Idiots and the Computer Illiterate.

    4.  We are all capable of overcoming our biases, of course, but what’s a physical trait (in others) that pretty much turns you off?

I don't think that these are physical traits, but I'm going to mention it anyway…. Anal retentiveness to the umpteenth degree.  There's someone that I work with right now that makes my life a living hell because of their OCD tendencies.  I was once told I didn't know how to use a stapler because of the way I stapled papers together.  I also don't appreciate controlling types.  I do my thing, you are entitled to do yours. Don't force  your ideals on me or tell me the way that you think that I should live my life.

    5.  When you feel a case of the blues coming on, what do you do to fend off the bad feelings?

I usually try to think of a time in my life that I had things worse off than in the current situation.  Sometimes that isn't always easy to do if things are pretty bad, but it helps to put things back into perspective.
