Just ask the people on my street about that one. (Now with picture goodness)
Since the snow last Thursday and the Sleet on Sat/Sunday our parking spots have turned into a complete skating rink. The road was covered with heavy slush and the top layer was frozen, but it has since frozen into a complete ice block.
I watched a Ford Excursion across the street try to get out of a parking spot on Monday night for 25 minutes. I would think that a Ford Excursion would have 4wd, but apparently not. It took 25 minutes of backing up and pulling forward to break himself free of the parking spot.
Yesterday, a Ford f150 was parked in my neighbors spot and when he tried to pull out his tires were spinning really bad. My neighbor was obviously out at the time, which is why his spot was taken. He just happened to come home at the right time…and ended up helping the guy get his truck loose. My neighbor steered this guy’s truck while the guy pushed it. They got it out, but that was like a 30 minute ordeal.
Now, I’m watching my neighbors across the street spinning their tires. In this case, its a big dodge ram 1ton truck. He’s not going anywhere.
Maybe its a ford thing, or a big truck thing, but I haven’t had any problems getting out of my sheet of ice parking spot to date and I have a dinky little Jeep Liberty. Knock on wood. I really hope this shit melts soon, I’m getting nervous about these people parking near my vehicle when they can’t make it out of the parking spots. I would attempt to go out and dig out a spot, but the ice is about 3 inches thick. You can’t move it.
I think half of these problems come from the fact that we live across the street from a school and all of the asshole parents and teachers come and steal our parking spots when school is in session. Its bad enough to try to find a parking spot on a normal day, but when there is some major snowfall, its impossible. You are reduced to putting some sort of lawn furniture in your spot so no one snakes it. Btw, putting furniture and things of that nature to “save a spot” is illegal in Hanover Township, so if a cop sees you doing that, be prepared to have your ass chewed out. Our parking is considered public, so anyone can steal your spot and its not illegal. One thing is for sure, its not fair. How would you feel spending 2 hours digging yourself out only to have some jackass come and park there when you are gone? Exactly.
Blah. At least I managed to get some qik joe at the supermarket earlier. I bought a 10 lb bag. Hopefully that will last until at least next week (at the rate we are going with winter storms around here). I used it on the ice covered stairs that I was chopping at for the last three days with my shovel (and pulling muscles in the process) and now they are completely ice-free.
Victory over ice, I has it.

(Here she is on the ice, that grey truck in the back was the one that was spinning its tires this morning)
