Ok, so after reading the previous post, I will now post what happened at my doctors appointment on Monday for my hernia related issues.
I had the appointment for 1pm with my family doctor on Monday. Rich watched the kids as I went so thankfully, I didn’t have to bring them along. That would have been disasterous. I was called back into the examination room and after waiting about 15-20 minutes my family doctor finally comes back. I explain to him that my OB-Gyn had felt that I had an umbilical hernia around the time I went for my last pap smear (in October). He had me stand up and felt around my belly button, then he had me stick out my stomach and hold my breath, still probing around my belly button. Then I had to the same thing sitting, and then again the same thing laying down. He told me he couldn’t feel any hernia and I likely didn’t have one, but if I run into any pain or issues puking or pooping to go to the ER immediately. Nice.
So, do I have a hernia or don’t I? Frankly, I don’t know. If I do have one, I’d like to get it taken care of ASAP.
Where do I go from here? Is there such a thing as a Hernia Specialist I can see? I know nothing about hernias whatsoever (other than what I’ve read online — and hernias don’t just MAGICALLY disappear as far as I have read). I looked in the phone book, but there is no category for hernia specialist, and when I look at the physicians category, I need to know what type of doctor a hernia specialist is. Gastroenterology maybe? I don’t know.
Anyone have any suggestions?
PS – I’m aware Gastroenterology and disasterous are spelled wrong, but I can’t get the stupid spell check working with this new rich text editor. It underlines them red, recognizing they are wrong, but I can’t figure out how to have it replace it with the correct word. Weird. I wish my old text editor would start working again damnit.
